5 reasons you should invest in website maintenance

26th May 2017

Performing all the tasks necessary to keep a website up to date and in good, working order so that it works and shows up correctly with the latest web browsers and mobile devices.

Maintenance is a crucial part of any website. At Bopgun we provide it all – from adding new content to installing the latest updates to your Content Management System (CMS). From a Developers perspective we have listed 5 of the reasons you should invest in website maintenance:

1. Security

If your website if running on a CMS you should have your website updated monthly, bi-monthly or at the very least every quarter. We build bespoke websites at Bopgun using our favourite CMS – WordPress. WordPress core updates are available regularly which include the latest security patches to ensure you website is kept as safe as possible from intruders.

2. Technical issues

Every website experiences them and it’s our job to iron out the issues as quick as possible. With a maintenance agreement in place you can be sure that you website will be up and running in no time, despite how minimal the issue may be. Most technical issues require editing of the code so make sure the person doing this is experienced – the smallest error in coding can have a catastrophic effect.

3. Speed

Websites running on a CMS will probably have a few plugins that expand the core functionality of the CMS. This could be a contact form or an entire e-commerce platform. If this is the case you should ensure that your plugins are kept up to date alongside the CMS core. A lot of plugin updates include speed optimisation so you will actually be improving the speed of your website by keeping everything maintained.

4. SEO

Search engine ranking algorithms like to change every so often and it’s important to stay ahead of the competition. To ensure your website is always ranking high you should be optimising your website on a regular basis. This could be through tweaking titles, improving descriptions, adding better content or optimising the mark-up of your website code.

5. Backups

With a maintenance agreement your website will be fully backed up on a regular basis. If you are running an e-commerce website your data is of paramount importance to your business. In this case your database should be backed up daily to ensure all orders and customer data is safe. Backups can be scheduled to run as often as you like so that you can keep peace of mind.
