National Apprenticeship Week 2023

National Apprenticeship Week 2023

6th February 2023

My not-so-conventional journey into Digital Marketing

For National Apprenticeship Week, I felt it was only suitable to join the celebrations and tell you about my journey into Digital Marketing.

So it all started in 2001 when I was born and immediately knew I wanted to be a Digital Marketer.

No, I’m kidding. If only it were that simple.

Realistically, I finished my A Levels and headed straight to university, studying English Literature with Writing.

“What use is that degree?” I would hear people say.

Well, I chose English because I loved reading and especially writing; I went for what I enjoyed. My original plan was to become an English literature teacher! While I gained many valuable skills, I suddenly realised that path wasn’t for me anymore.

The turning point during my English degree was my work placement – the beginning of my interest in Digital Marketing and my career change – you’re probably thinking, how did that happen?

I worked with a charity for two weeks writing copy and blog writing, so English integrated into marketing while learning how to create Facebook ads and study analytics. I massively enjoyed my time. It was after that I realised I was fascinated by Digital Marketing.

Once I finished my degree, I looked at jobs and luckily found an apprenticeship at Bopgun Design with Professional Apprenticeships.

For some, once they’ve completed their education, they can head straight into their career. But sometimes, if your initial plan is no longer for you, you must explore your options and change your path – just like I went from English to Digital Marketing. And that’s perfectly okay, and why I wanted to share my journey this National Apprenticeship Week.
