7 Marketing Strategies to use this Black Friday

7 Marketing Strategies to use this Black Friday

24th October 2022

With just over a month until this year’s Black Friday madness (25th November), now is the perfect time to start implementing marketing strategies into your business – if you haven’t already. Can you believe that 94% of shoppers now shop entirely or partially online? Therefore, it’s essential your website and online presence are on point.

We’ve put together 7 handy top tips to help your business stand out against competitors this Black Friday.

1. Build anticipation on social media

Social media provides a platform for you to speak directly to your followers. Establishing a calendar targeted specifically towards promoting your Black Friday sales allows you to gradually build your awareness to your followers in the next month. Video marketing generates more views than stand-alone images, and applying this to your promotional social posts allows you to achieve more impressions, which means more traffic to your webpage.

Although, don’t reveal it all straight away! Be mysterious with your offers and tease your followers with sneak peeks to intrigue them into returning.

2. Website preparation

Imagine you’ve invested your time into building anticipation on your social media channels for your website to collapse under the pressure of the big day. To stop such a catastrophe, test your server capacity before Black Friday to avoid unwanted crashes.

Maybe now can be the perfect time to update your website. Including extra elements to your website, such as pop-ups on exit with an exclusive discount, can make customers reevaluate before leaving.

3. Mobile optimisation

While updating your webpage, you should consider whether your website is mobile-friendly.

In 2021, around 40% of Black Friday Sales were via smartphone! Ensure elements such as fonts are accurately sized and that your webpage runs smoothly on mobile to stay on top of sales. If you’re on a desktop, you can easily check out how your website looks on different devices on our preview website, all you need is your URL.

4. Promotion deciding

Black Friday is a free-for-all for businesses promoting their products. You want to stand out against the competition and create some ‘FOMO’ offers that your customers won’t be able to resist. Make them unique and personal, and as previously mentioned, you can still build on the surprise aspect of what you’re going to offer. This could be by leaving the discount a secret until they’re on your website.

5. Shipping and spending awards

Have you ever filled your basket just to be put off by expensive postage and packaging? It happens. One way to avoid this happening to you can be to include free shipping in response to a spending reward. Savvy shoppers may see this as a target to reach, purely to benefit from free shipping. Around 79% of consumers are more likely to shop when given free shipping, so include this in your Black Friday offers to stop cart abandonment.

6. SMS marketing

SMS marketing is becoming a big hit for many retailers, with an open rate of 98%! If you’ve ever collected your customers’ phone numbers, now may be an ideal time to start pushing Black Friday discounts and hints out by text message – as they have an almost guaranteed open rate! However, if you are deciding to begin SMS marketing, make sure your customers can easily opt-out.

7. Email marketing

One of the best email marketing strategies is offering an incentive to persuade customers to sign up, people are much more likely to sign up when offered a reward for exchanging their information. It could be as simple as a discount code or a gift card.

Once you’ve built an email list, strategise your email marketing with some warm-up emails. If you suddenly send out emails just over Black Friday weekend, spam filters will notice this, and they’ll end up wasted.
